📰 Altavoz Lab Selected for LION’s Sustainability 360 Program

We’re proud to share that Altavoz Lab has been selected as one of 40 news organizations participating in LION Publishers’ expanded Sustainability 360 program, supported by the MacArthur Foundation and the Google News Initiative. Through this year-long program, Altavoz Lab will receive personalized coaching in strategy, finance, and human resources to strengthen our newsroom operations and continue growing our impact. We’re thrilled to be part of this inspiring cohort of local and community-centered outlets dedicated to building sustainable journalism across the U.S.

Valeria Fernández Receives Award at MediaFest25

Tenbarge, Baquet, and Fernández participated in a panel where they spoke to an audience of journalism students. When asked if she had a message for them, Fernández said, “Take care of yourself, rely on each other, and remember: it’s not all on you. We believe in you.” 

Valeria Fernández, founder of Altavoz Lab, is named Fellow of the Society at the Society of Professional Journalists MediaFest, the organization’s annual convention.
New fellows of the Society, Kat Tenbarge, founder of Spitfire News, Valeria Fernández, founder of Altavoz Lab, and Dean Baquet, former executive editor of the New York Times, received the highest honor for their trajectory in journalism by the Society of Professional Journalists during MediaFest, the organization’s annual convention.

Jimena Sandoval is a social communicator who studied at the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas (UCA) in El Salvador. She is an entrepreneur and communicator known for her leadership in promoting equity and visibility for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. As the founder of Noisy Digital, the first trans-led marketing agency, Jimena focuses on empowering marginalized communities, particularly the TGI (transgender, gender expansive, and intersex) population. She has been involved in significant initiatives alongside organizations like The TransLatin@ Coalition and Bienestar Human Services. With a strong background in PR and marketing, Jimena works to amplify the voices and stories of the LGBTQIA+ community, creating impactful change and opportunities. She is also a collaborator for palabra by NAHJ.
